Vikas Dubey was an Indian gangster and politician from Uttar Pradesh, India. He was primarily active in the Kanpur region. He was implicated in numerous criminal cases, including murder, kidnapping, extortion, and rioting.
Dubey gained notoriety for his alleged involvement in the 2001 murder of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and a state minister. However, he was acquitted in the case due to lack of evidence.
His name resurfaced prominently in July 2020 after the Kanpur%20ambush, where eight police officers were killed in Bikru village while attempting to arrest him. Following the ambush, Dubey fled and was arrested in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
He was killed in an encounter with the police while being transported back to Kanpur. Police claimed that the vehicle carrying him overturned and he attempted to escape, leading to the encounter. The circumstances surrounding his death were highly controversial and raised questions about potential extrajudicial killing.
